In 2019, the North Dakota legislature made a few important updates to the Baby Safe Haven Law to adjust to changing needs.
Changes to Baby Safe Haven Law
- Allows infants to be abandoned at birth in the hospital
- Expands approved locations
- Adds that an infant must be left with an on-duty staff member
- Mandates that the North Dakota Department of Health and Department of Human Services would develop and implement a public information campaign to educate the public, medical providers, law enforcement and social service agencies on the Baby Safe Haven Law
